When you need a permit

A permit is required before you start work on any of the following.

  • New construction, additions, and structural alterations
  • Decks, fences over six feet, sheds over 120 square feet
  • Roofing, siding, and window replacement
  • Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work
  • Driveways, patios, and swimming pools

How the process works

  1. Submit an application with two sets of plans and a plat of survey.
  2. Plan review takes up to ten business days for residential work.
  3. Pay the permit fee and collect the permit card.
  4. Call for inspections at each stage listed on the card.
  5. Receive a final certificate of occupancy or completion.

Schedule an inspection

Inspections are carried out weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Call before 4:00 p.m. the previous business day.
